Job Details

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Exhibits safety awareness and safe work practices
  • Clean, perform preventive maintenance, assemble, disassemble, and stage molds (with extreme care and attention) to meet production needs
  • Communicate in an effective and timely manner any tooling issues to the Tool Room Supervisor and Tooling Engineer(s)
  • Maintain an orderly and clean toolroom
  • Operation of general toolroom equipment such as Bridgeport mills, surface grinders, manual lathers, TIG/MIG/laser welders, and other shop equipment
  • Provide input on tool design

 

Organizational Relationships:

The Production Tool Maker I reports directly to the Tool Room Supervisor and supports the Production Managers, Program Managers and Project Engineers with tool troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, and design.

 

Experience and/or Educational Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Preference for a two-year training certificate or Associates Degree in a tooling program of study and/or a Journeymen’s card.
  • 5+ years’ experience in injection molding and mold making with 3+ years preferred in a medical molding environment
  • High school level math skills
  • Attended advanced training courses in plastics injection mold making and maintenance
  • General understanding of tool shop operations and equipment
  • Advanced blueprint reading skills
  • Strong written/verbal communication, leadership, interpersonal and motivational skills
  • Operation of overhead cranes and lift-trucks

 

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to work a standard 40-hour work week with occasional overtime including weekends as a possibility. Sitting and/or standing for an extended period as well as some walking within the facility. Must be able to see with or without corrective lenses and distinguish color differences and depth perception for product and safety issues.  Hearing ability should be sufficient to hear and react to audible alarms from distances up to 100 feet. The ability to lift and carry various items up to 70 pounds.
